well
im not opposed to a good fight

[It would be interesting for many reasons...]

though im afraid a mage without magic makes for a rather poor sparring partner
starshepard: (4)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-03-31 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
ah
well mayhap i could teach you a thing or two?
lightduties: (triangulation)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-03-31 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
[hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The response takes a little longer than usual.]

id like that
where shall we meet?

[He hasn't seen a good place for this sort of thing... not with these crowded streets and all.]
starshepard: (12)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-02 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
that
is a good question

im sure we can find somewhere suited for such activites

i saw fields from the train on the way to the evergreen terrace
meet me at the lobby
ill get directions from a local
while you decide which of your adventures youll spin me a tale of on the train ride

[Since Emet-Selch told Rhea'li to ask Azem instead of asking him! Not that Azem has told him they've been on adventures.]
starshepard: (4)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-04 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
perfect
see you soon

[ And sure enough, they're in the lobby as quickly as their feet can carry them, eagerly bouncing on their toes. ]
lightduties: (Default)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-04-04 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rhea'li greets Azem with a smile. Though he's less obviously eager, the slight wag of his teail betrays his feelings. Having obtained directions, Rhea'li leads the way to the train that will bring them to the Agriculture sector. At least, the part of it that they're allowed to go.

Once they're on board, Rhea'li asks-]

So... have you decided what tale of heroism you'll tell me while we're waiting?
starshepard: (7)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-04 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The little wag of his tail is noticed by Azem and they can't help but think it's cute. ]

Ah, yes, it was a story you wanted. [ They put on a show of looking thoughtful before grinning. ]

I think I have just the story. The one about how I fought a volcano. [ Their grin widens as they lean in toward him. ]
lightduties: (oblique meanings)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-04-05 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Rhea'li's eyebrows rise into his fringe.]

You fought a volcano?

[Rhea'li leans against a railing.]

Now I must know how you managed such a feat.
starshepard: (4)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-05 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Aye. [ They bob their head in a quick nod before taking up a more relaxed stance. ]

A little backstory first. The Convocation of Fourteen — that is the governing body of our star — received reports of a volcano that was on the verge of eruption on a small island. As it is my job to travel the star and aid the people while also gathering firsthand information I was sent down to observe.

Now, see, the island is known for its grapes and wine production. And while the people were prepared to evacuate and the Convocation willing to let nature take its course, I couldn't very well let those cultivated fields of grapes be destroyed.

[ They pause, letting a slow grin crawl across their face as they wait to see Rhea'li's reaction. ]
lightduties: (are they tangentially related?)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-04-06 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rhea'li nods along to Azem thoughtfully giving him context he already knows, though it's also interesting to hear Azem describe their own role. Folding his arms, Rhea'li hums.]

Though their lives may have been saved, losing those grapes would be a blow to their livelihoods.

[Though he could see why the Convocation made that decision -- how does one fight a force of nature? -- he wonders...]

A volcano is not something typically something one would consider... fightable. How did you do it?
starshepard: (4)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-06 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There was no real livelihood to be lost when there was no money to be made. But those grapes had been cultivated to perfection by those people, and it was rather sad to see that taken away.

Azem nods, grinning broadly.
]

Aye, that is the rub, is it not? However, I have a friend with access to various concepts, that is creations of our own design for various reasons. This particular one was a strong fire spirit, Ifrita.

So the plan was this, bring the concept into being and use her to adsorb the aether of the volcano. Once done I then dragged her away and fought her into submission. Thus, the volcano didn't erupt and the grapes were saved.

[ They look quite proud of themself for coming up with that plan so quickly. They're thankful Hythlodaeus was able to help them out, otherwise they would have had to just let the thing erupt. ]
lightduties: (Default)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-04-08 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ifrita? The name bears an uncanny resemblance to Ifrit. Is it yet another concept that has survived to his time, albeit changed?]

That is quite some lateral thinking. 'Tis impressive that it worked so well.

[He has a sneaking suspicion he knows exactly which friend lent the concept...]

I imagine the peoples who lived there were quite grateful?
starshepard: (4)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-09 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's very possible that's the case. Ifrit could be the same concept, simply changed by the Amalj'aa's influce. ]

Lahabrea's creations never cease to amaze, quite honestly. [ They lean in a bit closer ] don't tell him I said that should you meet him.

Oh, quite. They plied me with more grapes and wine than I could have possibly hoped to consume on my own. Good thing I had friends to gift them to.
lightduties: (circular functions)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-04-10 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rhea'li tries very hard to not make it obvious that he recognises the title of Lahabrea, his expression freezing and poorly attempting to stop his ears from twitching. He doesn't think it is such a good idea to reveal that he has met Lahabrea, and perhaps knows more about Lahabrea than he wanted.

It doesn't occur to him that if he wanted to pretend he didn't know anything about Lahabrea, perhaps he ought to ask a little more about him. But instead, he asks-]

Do you make any creations of your own, then?

[Azem had mentioned transformation, but he's curious if Azem had any hand in making concepts, especially if they find Lahabrea's to be impressive.]
starshepard: (4)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-11 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Azem notices the odd reaction but isn't sure if it's worth questioning. Besides, he's asking another question about them so they must oblige. ]

A few, nothing as impressive, however.

[ They often came up with silly concepts just to get a laugh out of Hythlodaeus. ]
lightduties: (COSINEd)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-04-13 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aw, no details? Rhea'li looks up at Azem.]

Still, I would like to hear of your favourite.

[He offers Azem a smile.]

Upon my star, magics of creation are limited to constructs, mostly in the shape of small creatures, easily controllable.
starshepard: (12)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-13 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, they'll give details but they like making people ask for such things. ]

My favorite, hmm? [ They look thoughtful as they try to decide which of their creations to talk about. They have quite a few silly ones ]

Is that so? We have small constructs like those, though they are usually created by children. [ Some of the first creations a child might make are likely similar to a carbuncle. ]

As for mine own... I once concepted a squishy creature that was meant to give off light as it floated through the air or the water. It was rather cute.

[ A simple concept they came up with as a child. Naturally, it wasn't super original but it remained dear to Azem. ]
lightduties: (invariant)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-04-16 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Created by children... not again! He's thrown quite vividly back to his brief time in Emet-Selch's recreation of Amaurot, where all thought he was a small, wandering child. Having stepped foot in Elpis, he wonders how many of his constructs would seem like child's play to the Ancients.]

It sounds cute. Would that there was a way to see it...

[And lo, their transport has reached its destination. With a nod to Azem, he says-]

Here's our stop.

[And so he steps off and leads the way to the Agricultural district. He was told there's a field, not quite as developed as a park but certainly a big open area for people to exercise or play games, not far away.]

I hope you were not expecting a spar with weapons, for I've none.

[Well, none that are particularly useful in this situation.]
starshepard: (7)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-18 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That's what happens when a people are so magically inclined that they're taught from a young age how to use it. Simple things like a small familiar are child's play. ]

Well... we do have the holograms, don't we?

[ While they take their transport Azem plays around with the hologram feature again and manages to conjure up a little glowing blue, jellyfish-like creature to show off to Rhea'li. ]

That's quite alright, it's not as if I have my weapons.

[ They smile and take a moment to adjust their robes so they won't be in the way of their movements. ]

Ready when you are.
lightduties: (alpha)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-04-25 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's forgotten all about that and looks upon the creature hologram in interest. It's always interesting to see a creature from ancient times that he can (or can't!) recognise in the present...

Once they're out in the field, Rhea'li watches Azem adjust their robes, tail flicking. He's quite aware of their difference in size and by his measure, Azem is more of physical fighter than himself and he's not so fool as to underestimate them.

The moment Azem declares their readiness, Rhea'li immediately darts forward and swings a fist up towards their solar plexus, intending afterwards to step back and away from Azem's immediate reach.]
starshepard: (4)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-04-26 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ Such a punch isn't a bad choice to start a fight, if one were to land it would wind their opponent. Unfortunately for Rhea'li, Azem steps to the side, hand coming up in an attempt to grab his wrist and spin him away from them.

They let out a little laugh as they do.
] Not a bad opening move.

[ Assuming he isn't thrown off balance by that, they'll sweep a leg to knock his feet out from under him. ]
lightduties: (circular functions)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-05-01 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Azem is faster on the draw and he's grabbed by the wrist. But though he's spun away, Rhea'li keeps his head about him, moving with the spin and using the momentum to transform that into a leap over Azem's leg sweep towards the ancient themselves.]
starshepard: (11)

[personal profile] starshepard 2024-05-01 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
[ Azem isn't expecting that kind of counter. They're thrown as Rhea'li jump at them. ]

Oh! [ Their eyes widen as they try to catch him, letting out a laugh. Trying to catch him might be a mistake, but it's one they're willing to take. ]

So you're the scrappy sort.
lightduties: (Default)

[personal profile] lightduties 2024-05-01 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
[A mistake, maybe, for he's the wriggliest of opponents, not afraid to use arms and legs to hang on and dig heels into other parts of Azem as he tries to scramble onto Azem's back. For all intents and purposes, he is doing a rather good imitation of a snake.

He responds to the comment with a small, wry smile.]

A side effect of being the smallest amongst my peers.
