TEXT MINGLE #1: CYBERCHARM 💞

One way or another, if you find yourself opening your aXess Link device, you may notice a curious pre-installed application. It's called CyberCharm! Otherworlders skeptical or curious alike, and feel compelled to investigate this program, will notice that the interface's AI has been hit with a glitch, causing users to discover a pre-generated dating profile has already been filled out for them. If any users wish to change or delete their profile, they must do so before anyone else responds, otherwise they could be saddled with an embarrassing pre-generated profile! Once responded to, users are locked out of changing it for the next month! So please make certain you are satisfied with your profile before it's too late!

Mm-hmm. They've given us a real shiny veneer. Gotta work on peeling that back and finding the bugs underneath. Security might be a good way to do that, for both of us.

Aye. [ They bob their head in a quick nod before taking up a more relaxed stance. ]

A little backstory first. The Convocation of Fourteen — that is the governing body of our star — received reports of a volcano that was on the verge of eruption on a small island. As it is my job to travel the star and aid the people while also gathering firsthand information I was sent down to observe.

Now, see, the island is known for its grapes and wine production. And while the people were prepared to evacuate and the Convocation willing to let nature take its course, I couldn't very well let those cultivated fields of grapes be destroyed.

[ They pause, letting a slow grin crawl across their face as they wait to see Rhea'li's reaction. ]

[Oh, are they plotting a heist now? This is sounding like a heist! And she's only been here a few days!]

Oooh, count me in! I like the sound of this. You know, if there's one thing I learned in Yoshiwara I bet's still true here, it's powerful people let slip some pretty interesting things as pillow talk when they're in the mood. You think the houses of pleasure need tech security people too? I scope out the big targets on the floor, pass where they'll be relaxing to the lady working the camera feeds to scope out. Bet you've got experience with clearing your tracks, right?

We'd have to pick the right house, with the right clientele, but if we want to find that dirt, best place to do it is where the powerful people in Magisteria feel the most unguarded, ne, Lucy-chan?

[Doubt Lucy would have any qualms about working in a place like that, and it'd beat going corporate.]

[ Hmm. That's... an interesting idea, actually. ]

Red light district probably needs even more security than most places. Lots of unguarded people there. Lots of secrets being spilled.

I'm good at getting in and out without being seen; if I had the keys to the security system anyway, it'd be even easier. We'll have to do some scouting to figure out the best location.

Yeah! I'll ask the apartment staff, tell 'em I'm interested in getting employment at one of the pleasure houses. Something commensurate with my resume as a duelist. That should point us towards the expensive ones.

[But something's been pricking at the back of Musashi's mind since she and Lucy started discussing this. Something she feels like she should remember about the red light district. The night is kind of a blurr thanks to the Verve, but the more she thinks about it, she remembers a group of them being stopped at the entrance to the district. Was Lucy part of that group?]

Hey, Lucy-chan...you were with the group when we got stopped near the entrance to the red light district, yeah? You remember when those two demon ladies stopped us? Kinda put it outta my mind at the time, but now it's bugging me. Somethin' about where the angels go?

An insurmountable task. I suppose I have no choice but to look the other way sometimes, if only for my own sanity.

I take it you are associated with the man who is in charge of the Underworld in your world?

Listening to Crowley speak of his previous job with some bemusement, Rhea'li can't help but have the impression Crowley was a rather... avoidant henchman-like being with good mind to come up with great ideas to allow him to do as little work as possible.

At being called an accountant, however, both of Rhea'li's ears twitch in both surprise and amusement. "An accountant? Hm, I suppose you could say 'tis related to my work."

In the sense that he was trained as one, sort of kind of.

"For budgeting, you ought to at least know the amount of money you are earning and the cost of your necessities like food and board. You will wish to keep some extra aside for extra expenses, so don't spend it all at once."

[Rhea'li nods along to Azem thoughtfully giving him context he already knows, though it's also interesting to hear Azem describe their own role. Folding his arms, Rhea'li hums.]

Though their lives may have been saved, losing those grapes would be a blow to their livelihoods.

[Though he could see why the Convocation made that decision -- how does one fight a force of nature? -- he wonders...]

A volcano is not something typically something one would consider... fightable. How did you do it?

[Seeing the emoji being sent by Emet-Selch surprises him; he didn't think the dour man would indulge in such frippery. Cute...]

Something about a woman who might change the balance of the city. And about how otherworlders should be wary to tread where the angels go.

[ If her cyberware was working, she'd be able to recall every moment. She hadn't paid much attention, at the time. But even the snippets that she does recall... are interesting. ]

I think you're right on target about the red light district being a good source of info. Not just from the clients; from the workers, too.

[ There was no real livelihood to be lost when there was no money to be made. But those grapes had been cultivated to perfection by those people, and it was rather sad to see that taken away.

Azem nods, grinning broadly. ]

Aye, that is the rub, is it not? However, I have a friend with access to various concepts, that is creations of our own design for various reasons. This particular one was a strong fire spirit, Ifrita.

So the plan was this, bring the concept into being and use her to adsorb the aether of the volcano. Once done I then dragged her away and fought her into submission. Thus, the volcano didn't erupt and the grapes were saved.

[ They look quite proud of themself for coming up with that plan so quickly. They're thankful Hythlodaeus was able to help them out, otherwise they would have had to just let the thing erupt. ]

"Ugh, necessities. I'm not even sure if I have to eat? Now that some time has passed I'm started to feel a little more like myself. Can't do much in the way of miracles still, but I can sense some of the things I'm supposed to be able to again. And I can probably manage something tiny, like..." he casts around for an idea, then shrugs and snaps his fingers. The palm of his other hand fills with a small pile of frozen peas, which he chucks into the pond. "Good for fish as well as ducks, should be fine. So I might not need to eat? But... I'll have to figure out... how much a place to live costs and... decide on one, I guess? Not something I've had a lot of say in before." Hell picked his flats.
