Undoubtedly in no small part because it already happened once, even if the permanency of the matter was not of Azem's own choice.

[He'd seen it so much in his travels... those who suffered a horrific, life changing event and it would dog their heels in both waking and sleep, clouding their minds 'til there was naught else.]

Though we have lived different lives, mayhap Azem would be more inclined to listen to their familiar, hm?
