It was a clash of morals. But more than that, I think it was simply that Azem wanted to save everyone without having to pay that heavy price. Most thought it selfishness, at the time, but I understand a bit better now. 'Twas only unfortunate that the answer was not to be found anywhere on our star's reaches...
